Donation jar stolen from local Denny’s caught on camera

Dennys Jar StolenMedford, Ore. — A fundraiser to help a sick local boy hit a speed bump after a money can used for donations was stolen and it was all caught on camera.

The manager at the Denny’s on Biddle Road in Medford says a man is seen in the video grabbing the donation jar and walked out with it last week. The jar was being used as a fundraiser to help Denny’s employee Misty Halstead.

Her 13-year-old son Tristen is suffering from an undiagnosed intestinal complication and her co-workers were raising the money to fund their travel expenses.

“He kind of surveyed the area, waited until there was no one up there and took the can. We have no idea how much money was in the can because we only collect it once a day,” said Darrin Plantenga, from Denny’s.

Medford Police are investigating. The can has been replaced and Denny’s is still asking for donations.

You can also buy a $20 ticket to a comedy for causes show to help with Tristen’s travel expenses. It’s happening September 19th at 7:30 p.m. at the Ramada next door to Denny’s. You can get your tickets at Denny’s or at the event.
