Driver leads OSP on wrong way chase, causes head-on crash

osp-elude-crash-picJosephine Co., Ore. — Oregon State Police are investigating, after they said a wrong way driver caused a head on crash on I5, before fleeing on foot.

Troopers said it started around 4 PM Saturday afternoon, near Grants Pass. Authorities said police tried to pull over the car for a traffic stop, but the car kept driving.

Troopers noted a woman jumped out of the passengers side, and the car got on the Interstate, driving the wrong way on the northbound side. Police said they stopped pursuing them, due to the risk involved.

“We had units that were attempting to locate the vehicle by traveling southbound in the southbound lanes, when we were dispatched to a head-on collision right here at milepost 52,” Sergeant Jess Elzy said. “The driver fled, currently at large, and we’re searching for him.”

The passenger and the driver of the other car were both transported to the hospital with severe injuries. Both lanes were closed on the northbound side. They have since been reopened.
