Drunk driver falls asleep at wheel, in middle of highway

San Diego, Ca. — Here’s more proof about the dangers of drinking and driving.A California woman, who allegedly was intoxicated, passed out while on a busy freeway.

Dozens of cars zipped by, but none of them hit the stopped vehicle. There might have eventually been an accident there, had it not been for a brave officer.

The black Chrysler Sebring was stopped in the number three lane of the Northbound-805 with traffic speeding by on both sides. Newstracker Paul Anderegg spotted it, pulled over, and called 911.

He then ran over during a break in oncoming traffic and tried to awaken the driver, “Hey…wake up!”

The windows were rolled up and doors locked. The woman was passed out, unresponsive. Cars and trucks never stopped, sliding right or left to avoid an accident, most still running at full speed.

Jake Sanchez, a California Highway Patrol Officer, says “You can see cars are going by 65, 70, even 80 miles an hour, any impact, that was very close.”

Moments later Officer Sergio Flores arrived on scene and tried to rouse her too. He waited a second for a speeding car to pass, then got into position to swing his flashlight at her window.

The Sebring started rolling slowly as the driver’s foot came off the brake. He ran around behind the car to rap on the passenger window, breaking in.

“Stop your car, you’re going to crash.” Finally, he was able to open the door and throw the gearshift into park.

The woman was collected from behind the wheel and walked over to the curb.

An empty vodka bottle was visible on her floorboard.

25-year-old Amber Dlaine Mckinney was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, handcuffed, and driven to Los Calinas for booking.
