Election far from over

Medford, Ore. — Although the ballots are in the work is far from over for the employees at the Jackson County Elections Office.

Jackson County Clerk Chris Walker said they hope to be out of the office by two or three the morning after election day. Walker said Wednesday they’ll come back to deal with ballots that may have been rejected by the tabulation machine for one reason or another.

Then the work on write-ins begins Thursday. The machines do not tabulate the write-in names, so they have to do it by hand. Then comes a 14 day challenge period.

“People who have signatures that are challenged or forgot to sign their ballot envelope we have 14 days to get those remedied after the election,” Walker said.

Walker said they won’t be able to certify or have any final results until after that 14 day period. We will have all the official results by June sixth. Then it’s possible there could be some recounts.
