Fire spares family homes…for now

(KING) An Okanogan, Washington family was ready when winds began to pick up and fire began moving toward the family’s property Sunday.

Firefighters had reinforced the fire line and the family had done everything they could to keep a defensive space around their property, consisting of four homes.

As the smoke lifted and winds picked up, the fire flared up.

From the south, the dark smoke was also daunting for Kory Heindselman.

“These two are going to converge and we are in the middle,” said Kory.

It’s not just about his house.

“I am most worried about my parents over the hill,” he said.

Kory’s brother, Doug, lives close by too.

“As long as we knew we had one exit we are going to keep going we are going to save these places,” said Doug.
