Firefighters, police investigating ‘suspicious’ vacant house fire

VACANT HOUSE FIRE PICMedford, Ore. — Medford police and fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a suspicious fire that completely destroyed a vacant house.

Crews were called to the 1900 block of Stewart avenue around 5 AM Saturday morning. When firefighters arrived, the house was completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters who were on scene say the house was boarded up, and no one was in the area.

“It was a vacant house, so yeah it’s suspicious, because there was nobody there,” firefighter Mike Longo said. “Police officers on scene described it as an exterior fire, that got into the house, and so they’re investigating that.”

Four engines were sent to the scene. There were no injuries reported. Fire officials say it’s not clear what started the fire at this time, the investigation is ongoing.
