‘Go Fund Me’ account set up for family of drowning victim

ANTONIO GARCIA 1Medford, Ore. — Friends of Antonio Garcia, 17, who drowned at Applegate Lake are creating a memorial fund to help his family.

The teen was with friends at the lake just over a week ago, when the group decided to go swimming.Garcia jumped off the dam, falling 60 feet into the water, where witnesses say he struggled to swim to shore, before disappearing under the surface.

Representatives of Rogue Creamery, where his father Jason works, said the family has seen an outpouring of support.

“People have stopped over, and they’ve brought things to them, some people have brought food, some people have brought smoothies to them, just little things that show that they care,” Marketing Director Francis Plowman said.

An account has been set up at Rogue Federal Credit Union to help with memorial costs. Anyone can go to any branch and donate money to the account, ‘In Memory of Antonio Garcia.’

A ‘Go Fund Me’ account has also been set up. The group is hoping to raise $10,000. To view the page or donate, click here.
