Grants Pass adult care homes forced to close doors

Grants Pass, Ore. — Two adult care homes in Grants Pass are being shut down in the midst of a safety investigation by Oregon Department of Human Services.

Heart of a Man on Avenue de Teresa has been forced to close it’s doors after 84-year-old resident with Alzheimer’s, Donald Dubose, walked out of the home on February 17th. An exhaustive search left crews without any leads. The search for Dubose has been called off.

It’s sister facility on Rogue River Highway, Home on the Rogue, is also now closed.

Both homes were given immediate suspension orders from the Department of Human Services on March 1st. Bobbi Doan, a spokeswoman for Department of Human Services, said the licensees failed to comply with licensing rules and regulations, and immediate action was taken to ensure the safety of the residents.

“We realize the impact on residents and their families was unexpected and upsetting,” Doan said in a statement. “We have been working to help the families and the residents locate alternative placements due to this difficult situation.”

Kirk Sager, the man who runs both facilities, declined to comment.

Dubose isn’t the first man to go missing from Heart of a Man. In November 2014 88-year-old Frank Rosales wandered away from the home. Rosales suffered from dementia. Search crews found him alive near the home more than a day later.
