Grants Pass Attempted Kidnapping, Suspect Still On Loose

A Grants Pass community is on edge tonight after a child comes dangerously close to a potential kidnapper. NBC5’s Laura Cavanaugh has the latest from Grants Pass.

Police say on Monday around 2:30 in the afternoon, an eight year old Lincoln Elementary School student had just gotten off his school bus near Beacon and Fairview and was walking home.

But out of nowhere, police say a red Dodge Challenger pulled up beside the boy. The young boy said the older man pointed what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol at him and ordered him to get in the car. But the child resisted, immediately yelling “no” and running away, taking shelter, hiding in some bushes. The car sped away, but the boy was able to get a good look at the car.

Police are on the lookout for the suspect’s vehicle. And it is a distinctive one. The vehicle involved is described as a red Dodge Challenger with a solid black stripe down the middle with Asian style stickers on the back window.

The man is described as a a male in his 40s – 50s. He has short dark hair, darker skin and a ninja style tattoo on his left forearm.

if you have any information about the man or the vehicle, you are asked to notify the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety at (541) 450-6260.
