Grants Pass measure to separate FD, DPS moves forward

GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A Grants Pass ballot measure to separate the fire department from the Department of Public Safety is moving forward.

Currently, DPS is made up of police, fire and 911.

The measure would create an independent fire district and potentially a more sustainable form of funding.

City council has decided to put it in the hands of voters and with pending approval from county commissioners, hopes to get it on the ballot next November.
