Jackson County Fair kicks off

Central Point, Ore. — The gates are open and the Jackson County Fair is officially underway.

While last year’s fair brought in a record number of people organizers said this year is looking to do about the same, if not more.

Dozens of adrenaline junkies lined up for the fair’s newest attraction, the Nitro.

“It was really fun because the wind would always go in your face and you felt like you were going to fall out, but you wouldn’t,” fair-goer Kayla Long said.

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground there’s always the 4 H competitions. And fair-goers said it’s best to come on an empty stomach. As the fair looks to improve every year even the traditional funnel cake is changing to keep up.

“You can make any cake a sundae just add a scoop of ice cream. Absolutely,” Funnel Cake Express Vendor Fred Valadez said.

Those who have been coming for decades said every year is a little different.

“I started 18 years ago, I brought my kids for 18 years and it’s evolved so now I bring my grandkids,” Patricia Chambers said.

The fair wraps up with free admission all day on Sunday.
