Jackson, Josephine County Sheriffs reach out to community

02.11 SHERIFFSTALENT, Ore. — Both the Jackson and Josephine County Sheriffs were in Talent Thursday, talking about working through budget cuts, marijuana, and school safety.

“Knowledge is power,” Josephine County Sheriff Dave Daniel said. “So, if they know what we’re doing, maybe they can have a greater sense of trust in law enforcement — that we’re out there and we’re not giving up.”

For an hour, Sheriff Daniel and Jackson County Sheriff Corey Falls took questions from the Rogue Valley League of Women Voters. Both Sheriffs called it a great opportunity to reach out to the community, and have a conversation about the problems that both counties are facing.

“It’s a connection, I want to continue to connect with the citizens of Jackson County,” Sheriff Falls said. “I want to let them know that I’m transparent and if they have questions, to ask.”

This year, the Josephine County Sheriffs Office is working with a $7.5 million budget, while Jackson County currently has $29 million in funding.
