Jacksonville surcharge for public safety

Jacksonville, Ore. — Jacksonville residents will soon be paying more for public safety.

The city of Jacksonville has been looking for ways to increase funding for its police department.

It is currently paid out of the general fund, but with increasing costs, city leaders say the budget just wasn’t cutting it.

The council recently approved a 20-dollar surcharge.

Resident’s will start to see the increase on their July utility bills.
