Medford, Ore. — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says while they’re staffed and prepared for the new jail expansion.
Some deputies will have to work overtime, at least for now.
Jail Commander Lt. Dan Penland says there will be more overtime than usual as they wait for extra deputies to get trained to cover the additional six lock-down cells, a 32-bed dormitory and room for 24 additional inmates.
Penland did not say how much overtime will be expected, but did say the expansion was desperately needed at the jail which is frequently at capacity.
Penland also said that the new deputies are expected ready for work in the next month and overtime to be cut back to normal.
The $2.7-million project remodeled nearly ten-thousand square-feet of old office space.
