Klamath Falls man honored for aiding wounded deputy

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Klamath County Sheriff’s Deputy wounded in a shooting 2 weeks ago is home and recovering tonight.

And, a stranger who may have helped save Deputy Jason Weber’s life is formally honored for his heroism.

Sheriff Frank Skrah says Deputy Jason Weber was flown back home to Klamath Falls Friday night…

“He needs time to heal – both physically, and emotionally.”

Weber was shot in the face and side during a routine traffic stop August 27th.

Michael Cooper witnessed the shooting from his window, and then ran out to help the deputy by using a towel to help stop the bleeding.

Sheriff Frank Skrah expressed his gratitude the day after the shooting…

“My hat’s off to that man. I’m going to figure out who he is, and I’m going to stop by, and probably put a big old kiss right on his cheek.”

While the Sheriff didn’t kiss Cooper Monday, he did present him with a commendation for valor.

Cooper, for his part, remains modest…

“I understand a deputy was shot, and that’s a big deal. I was there, just trying to help. I don’t really think that was so big of a deal – but I guess it was.”

A former ‘Policeman of the Year’, Deputy Weber still has a long road of recover ahead – and the family is asking that the public respect their privacy.

Suspects William ‘Jack’ Parkerson and Karey Pascoe appeared in court Monday afternoon to face charges of attempted aggravated murder, and first degree assault.

Parkerson and Pascoe both entered pleas of ‘not guilty’.
