Klamath Falls Memorial Day 2013

Memorial Day observations are very personal for many people living in Klamath Falls…

Retired Air Force Veteran Becky Price thinks of her brothers on Memorial Day…

“I have two of them that served in the Air Force. They’re quite a bit older than me, so I idolized them when I was a kid – and I always knew that I was going to wind up in the Air Force.”

Memorial Day also sparks memories of family for Navy Veteran Craig Dobey…

“I think of my grandfather, who was in the Navy himself – Otis Dickerson. He was an awesome guy – special man, God loving man.”

Gale McMahon’s thoughts turn to a hero and fellow soldier, Lance Corporal Michael Murphy…

“He was killed in Vietnam, he saved my best friend’s life – who also did two tours in Vietnam, Shannon McCool – who passed on several years ago.”

There weren’t as many people along Main Street in Klamath Falls for this year’s Memorial Day parade…Even though the list of the heroes they honor grows larger every year.

“I wish more people would think about them, instead of making it a day of celebration.” Notes Gale McMahon. “This is a day of remembrance, of honor, of respect for them.”
