MacCallum Murder Suspects Appear In Court

It’s becoming a family tragedy. Today, wife and step-sister appeared in court as the key suspects in the murder of Medford man, Michael Christopher MacCallum.

It’s been nearly 3 weeks since police found 34-year-old Chris MacCallum with gunshot wounds at the bottom of a steep drop off in California.

Today his wife and sister-in-law appeared for the first time at the Jackson County Justice Building.

A homicide case that’s evolving into a family tragedy.

Appearing in jail jumpsuits via video camera MacCallum’s wife, 26-year-old Tricia MacCallum, and her step sister, 27-year-old Amber Lubbers, appeared in court for an extradition hearing to transfer them from the Jackson County Jail to Siskiyou County.

The two were arrested last Friday for what police are callingpremeditated murder.

“It’s really bitter sweet because it’s sweet knowing the detectives had arrested Tricia. At the same time it’s very sad, you know it would be her, his own wife,” says Chris’ mother, Sarah Ramirez.

But the two suspects’ father isn’t buying it. “I’m scared they’re going to be railroaded,” says John Singley. “It’s going to be one of those cases that takes 15 years and my daughters are going to be locked up for 15 years, until they find the real killer.”

In an interview 2 weeks ago, Tricia told us, off camera, she left Chris at the campsite near where his body was found, because she ‘got too cold.’

“He didn’t want to leave,” said Tricia. “He didn’t want his trip to be a failure, because it was his birthday trip. If I had stayed, I wonder if my children would be orphans too.”

With Tricia in custody, Chris’ two children are now left without their parent’s.

“I love you daddy,” says his three year old daughter, Cora.

A family torn apart after the death of son, father, and friend.

Amber is headed to Siskiyou County within the next 21 days.Another hearing is scheduled for Tricia. Both women are being held without bail.
