Man dies in motorcycle crash after colliding with deer

GRANTS PASS, Ore. – Oregon State Police say a Grants Pass man died after he crashed his motorcycle into a deer early Tuesday morning.

It happened on Highway 260 near milepost 10.5 after 2:15 am.

OSP said they determined a 2001 Suzuki Motorcycle operated by 36-year-old Donald Hoak was traveling northbound on the highway when he collided with a deer. Hoak lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Motorists are reminded that deer frequently crossroads in the rural areas of Josephine County, especially at night and early morning,” Rural Metro Fire said. “And the nearby fires have also caused a lot of deer to move into residential areas.”
