McLoughlin students give back to the community

Medford, Ore. — McLoughlin Middle School students are doing their part to make our community a better place.

The school’s leadership class gave away $5,000 worth of grants to local nonprofitsWednesday afternoon.

The class is made up of 20 eighth graders and two seventh graders. They visited several nonprofits before deciding which ones best fit their mission of helping youth overcome bullying, arrest, and sexual harassment.

The students said it was a tough choice, but they’re happy with their decision.

“People our age are being affected by the things that we wouldn’t even think. and so the fact that we could give money to people so that people our age can get help it’s just an amazing feeling,” eighth grader Jennisis Christianson said.

The grant money was provided by Patsy Smullin, President of KOBI-TV NBC5.

The Magdalene Home received the biggest grant of $2,000. Otherrecipients includeSparrow Club, OnTrack, andChildren’s Advocacy Center.
