Medford airport has record number of passengers for 15 months

Medford, Ore. — The Rogue Valley International Medford Airport has had it’s busiest year ever, and airport authorities say they’re expecting even more passengers into the new year. Since January, over 690,000 people have flown through MFR, and they’ve broken records every month for the past 15 months.

Airport Director Bern Case cited an uptick in the economy as a factor. He also said the closure of the Klamath Falls Airport has brought an increase in traffic, although he said the airport would have still seen record numbers regardless.

“We’re about 50 percent leisure travel, and about 50 percent business, but both are up and it’s been a real good year,” Case said.

Compared to last November, an additional 5,000 passengers came through MFR in the last month. Case expects those numbers to continue through the holiday season.
