Medford city councilor to challenge Sen. Wyden in primaries

MEDFORD, ORE —  Medford city councilor Kevin Stine announces he’ll challenge democratic senator Ron Wyden in next May’s primary election.

Stine is currently serving his first term as city councilor.

He spoke with NBC5 News on Monday, he’s both confident and excited about the challenge of running against Senator Wyden, whose been in his current position since 1996.

The 29-year old says he was inspired to run after one of Senator Wyden’s recent town hall meetings. While Stine acknowledges Senator Wyden has plenty of experience in Washington and knows it will be a tough battle, he feels Oregonian’s deserve a fresh voice.

“There is a spot against a grassroots campaign in a democratic primary against Ron Wyden, based on some of positions he’s taken. I do believe there is a path to victory, I’m not saying it’s easy but I will work hard, and I hope to get the support of the citizenry,” Stine said.

Stine has set up both a Facebook and website for his campaign. Some of the key issues he’s focusing on include trade and healthcare.
