Medford man tries to kill cellmate after being charged with animal abuse

james jay parkerMedford, Ore. — A week after being booked in jail on animal abuse charges suspected of killing a dog, a Medford man is facing attempted murder charges after trying to kill his cellmate.

Court documents show 51-year-old James Parker was arraigned Tuesday after trying to strangle his cellmate.

According to the documents, Parker says he tried to kill 66-year-old Michael Hill because “he believed Hill was attempting to steal his soul through the bottoms of his feet.”

Last week Medford Police arrested Parker after he told them he killed a family dog because it was tied to his ex-wife. He’s now being held on $1.2 million bail.
