Medford Police Chief’s last official day

Medford, Ore.– After 38 years, the city of Medford’s most tenured employee, Medford Police Chief, Tim George, had his last official day with MPD.

George was hired as a patrol officer in 1977 and rose in the ranks before his promotion to police chief in 2011. During that time, MPD says George was instrumental in forming units like the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement team and MPD’s Tactical Information Unit.

His last day left his fellow officers feeling a bit somber.

“It is a hard day,” said Lt. Mike Budreau, Medford Police Department. “It’s hard for me and several others here. It’s sad to see somebody go that you have so much respect for and that has done so much for the department.”

George said part of his decision to retire was due to recent changes in the public employee retirement system. The other part, he said, it was simply time.
