Medford Police remind residents of Bear Creek Greenway safety

Medford, Ore. — Medford Police Lieutenant Mike Budreau says Wednesday’s crime is a good example of why police put so much effort into clearing transient camps.

Budreau says they do sweeps every other month to make sure people aren’t illegally camping on the Greenway, he says during last months sweep they ticketed 13 people.

He says the crimes they typically see on the Greenway involve trespassing, assaults between transients, illegal camping, and drug and alcohol use.

It is shocking whenever we have something like this occur, it really reemphasizes we really need to step up our efforts!

Budreau also says the Greenway is typically safe during the day, but it’s not a bad idea to have a friend with you while recreating on the Greenway and he doesn’t recommend visiting it at night.
