Medford, Ore. — Turning something positive out of what some would say was a negative. The Medford school district says they saved $69,000 a day during the teacher’s strike.
District Chief Financial Officer Brad Earl says during the 11 strike days in February they paid more than 2-million dollars to keep schools and the district running, but they came out more than 724,000 ahead on the budget.
Earl says the extra money will be used for student activities, classroom supplies, and upgrading some facilities.
“Many of these items were already on the to do list, so really what this afforded us to do is more projects in this fiscal year that we weren’t planning on doing this year or future years.”Earl says while this is a positive benefit, it is not something that they want a repeat of, anytime soon.
