Jacob Franklin says he’s caught between a rock and a hard place these days.The former Jackson County deputy said he can’t get another job as a cop because of a report that should have been destroyed.
“I’ve been turned down for two more jobs and one of the two quoted Jackson County and said that’s the reason why you are not getting employed here,” explainedJacob Franklin.
In October, a jury found Franklin was wrongly terminated from his job with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Ajudge ordered Franklin be paid more than $200,000.00 dollars, his attorney fees be paid, and all copies of a report alleging Franklin acted as a rogue copbe destroyed.
“It’s been five months and they’re still goofing around with it,” said Franklin.
The report was given to the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST).
The state agency didn’t destroy the document because they say it’s a public record and is protected under Oregon law.
Wednesday afternoon a federal judge issued an order for DPSSTto destroy their copy.
We spoke with officials at the state agency and they said they plan to confer with their legal team and abide by the law. As for Franklin, he says he hopes the document is destroyed so he can secure employment with another police department and get his life back on track.
