OLCC holding ‘listening sessions’ on recreational marijuana

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Oregon Liquor Control Commission now holding ‘listening sessions’ on legal marijuana west of the Cascades.

The O.L.C.C. held their first marijuana hearings in Baker City, and Pendleton.

O.L.C.C. Chair Rob Patridge says the public identified three priority areas…

“About edibles – and about educating kids, and about making sure that we keep their community safe.”

Patridge adds the O.L.C.C. is also asking state lawmakers to allow the agency to have officers that can enforce marijuana regulations…

“They need some type of authority to seize, freeze the scene, and try and determine what’s going on.”

The ‘listening sessions’ are coming to southern Oregon next week.

The O.L.C.C. will hold a hearing in Ashland on Wednesday the 18th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Stevenson Union building at Southern Oregon University.

They’ll then travel to Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls for a hearing on Thursday the 19th from 10 to noon.

Patridge says public input in implementing measure 91 is important…

“Because this is a drug that is a very powerful drug, and we need to do so cautiously.”

Recreational marijuana possession becomes legal in Oregon on July first.

The state will begin taking applications for retail sales of marijuana in January of 2016.
