Oregon bill could add $2 tax to cigarettes

Medford, Ore. — A proposed bill in Oregon could bump up the cost of a pack of cigarettes by two dollars.

That would bring the tax on cigarettes up to $3.33.

Medford resident Raeanne Simper was surprised by the possible increase.

“I might definitely try to cut back, cause that’s, two dollars a pack, that’s a lot, that’s like half the cost of a pack right now,” Simper said.

Joan Schuler supports the bill.

“I think it’s a great idea, they shouldn’t be smoking anyway, it’s bad for everyone’s health,” Schuler said.

Other bills are also targeting cigars and vapor products. For more information on each one, click here.
