OSU Extension Budget Woes

Klamath County may soon have to cut all funding to the Klamath Basin Research and Extension Center.

County funds make up less than a quarter of the center’s budget but that’s a key piece to getting matching funds.

“The county partnership brings in about $333,000 on a $1.5, almost $1.6 million budget. Without local support, then the other $1.3 million dollars is in jeopardy” says Willie Riggs of the OSU Klamath Basin Research and Extension Center.

The office on Vandenberg Road could be closed, and moved to the research center to save costs.

Putting a request before voters to form a taxing district to fund operations hasn’t been ruled out.
