Panhandle Ordinance Passes in Central Point

It’s official. Giving to pan-handlers while your inside your car in the city of Central Point will soon be a crime.

We spoke with an officer earlier Friday who only toldNBC 5 that lateThursday night the city council passed a ban on exchanges between panhandlers and motorists.

Police say it’s in response to complaints of increased panhandling near both interstate exits in Central Point. But not every resident agrees. Some say the panhandlers do not bother them and they have every right to be out there.

If caught doing this, residents will face a fine of up to $75.

Thelaw will officially go into effect in 30 days.
