Police patrol to begin along the greenway in Phoenix

Medford, Ore.- The Phoenix Police Department is launching a new bike patrol program. Reserve volunteers will monitor sections of Bear Creek Greenway as well as nearby adult communities. The bikes were donated to the department by the Bear Lakes Estates Home Owners Association.
Aside from keeping the area safe Phoenix Police Chief Derek Bowker says the goal of the bike patrol is simple- to talk to people and be approachable because, “It’s much easier to approach somebody who’s on a bicycle” Bowker says.
Chief Bowker says instituting the bike patrol has been a goal of his since he began as chief in 2008.
