Police say reported shooting was actually firecrackers

Central Point, Ore. – Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies and Oregon State Police troopers responded to the 11000 block of Duggan road in rural Central Point just after 2 PM on Monday, following reported shots fired, and a woman screaming. Law enforcement officials set up a perimeter around the property, and brought out the BearCat to enter the driveway.

After walking through the property, they located the resident, who admitted to lighting firecrackers.

“He was saying he threw some firecrackers, and then started yelling out the window of his mobile home on the property, that somebody had stolen his CD’s and he wanted them back,” Deputy Chad Prins said. “So that might have been what the neighbors heard.”

The man was taken into custody, and transported to the hospital on a mental health hold. He later told deputies that he wanted to speak with a mental health worker.
