Police search for suspect involved in 100 MPH pursuit

Medford, Ore. – Oregon State Police say they are searching for the driver of a 2015 black Dodge Charger that lead them on a high-speed chase into Medford, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Police say the driver was first spotted around 3:50 PM on Highway 140, driving 98 miles per hour in a 55 zone. The pursuit continued across Highway 62 onto Agate road, before turning back onto Vilas road, and continuing toward Medford.

Police say at the intersection of Vilas road and Highway 62, the car sped through the on the center lane, driving 100 miles per hour. Police say they discontinued the pursuit, due to the high level of traffic, and the danger involved in pursuing the fleeing vehicle.

A short time later, police say they received a call from a concerned citizen, reporting a black car had been seen driving recklessly through the Burger King parking lot, and onto Forest Hills drive in Medford. Police searched the area, and found the car abandoned in an apartment complex on Forest Hills drive. Witnesses say they say the male driver flee on foot with a backpack. There is no other information available about the suspect at this time.

Police say the car is a rental out of Grants Pass. They have contacted the woman who rented the car, and are working to determine who was driving it. When the suspect is apprehended, police say he’ll face numerous charges, including felony elude and reckless endangering.
