Rango Producer

As the Oscars were handed out in Los Angeles…Southern Oregon film producer Gary Kout was watching from his home in Ashland…and when Rango, which he helped create, won best animated film

” it was shocking..you prepare yourself that it won’t win…then when it does…you feel it’s a big deal” So what was Kout’s role in the film…he says “my job was to make sure the motion capture portion of the film got shot on budget and on time” Gary says while this portion of the film had a small budget, it was ground breaking in making an animated film. “we were capturing emotion rather than motion…the director had all these great actors and said I want to bring them together to act it out on stage so you can get reaction which you normally don’t do.” Gary won’t be receiving a golden statue for his work…but his resume will never be the same. He says

“no wish I did…but I do get to put Oscar winning next to rango on my film work…and i’m still young so hopefully someday I will be the one to go up an except the statue.” With the way Hollywood connections work, that next big opportunity could be very soon.
