Red Cross offers free smoke alarm checks and installation

RED CROSS

Medford, Ore. – Volunteers from Red Cross hit the streets of Medford on Saturday, to help people test their smoke alarms. The work was part of a nation-wide campaign aimed at reducing the amount of fire-related deaths by 25 percent in the next five years.

The group of volunteers hit three different areas of town, going door to door, and scheduling appointments.

“We’re gone through all of Oregon, we’ve got Medford left,” Brian Anderson said, a volunteer with the Red Cross. “We’ll set up and do it by appointment afterwards, and so we’ll go out and check their smoke alarm, and if it’s bad or needs to be replaced, we’ll take care of it.”

The service is free, and anyone can sign for an appointment by calling (503) 528-5783.
