Representative Richardson Urges Schools to Rethink Gun Ban

Friday’s school shooting in Connecticut has government officials right here in the valley talking about what to do with the nation’s gun laws when it comes to schools.

Oregon Representative Dennis Richardson sent an e-mail out to local superintendents asking them to consider overturning gun bans on school property.

Richardson says if just a small number of teachers at each school properly knew how to use guns, they could easily fight off any threat to the school.

“If I were a school administrator, if I were on a school board and I continued to take the position that that there will be no ability to utilize lethal force against a mass murderer and what occurred in Connecticut were to occur in my school, I would feel I have blood on my hands for failing to take action that would save the lives of our children.”

Law enforcement agencies have spoken about the issue and believe it’s best if they handle any dangerous situation and for teachers to keep an eye on students to keep them safe.
