Ruch Elementary parent thankful for normalcy

While Medford teachers remain on strike one parent says her son’s school is maintaining a sense of normalcy. Ruch Elementary is part of the Medford School District, but the MEA said some Ruch teachers are crossing the picket line.

Sansa Collins’s son is a kindergartner at Ruch. She said when he went back to school Tuesday his teacher was there in the classroom.

“We are thrilled our teachers are here because they’re fantastic,” Collins said.

While most Medford students are being taught by substitutes Collins is grateful her son’s teacher is back.

“I don’t know what we would have done if we would have had subs in there because he’s sensitive and doesn’t always do well with new adults,” she said.

Collins said Ruch, one of Medford’s most remote schools, is like a close family, one where the teachers love the students and the students love the teachers.

“I’m very happy that we have Ruch school and that we are in this together with our teachers,” she said.

According to the MEA not all Ruch teachers are in class. There was no picketing there Friday, but teachers did picket earlier in the week.
