Shoppers stay local for Small Business Saturday

Ashland, Ore. — For many, holiday shopping continued today — as community members came out to support their favorite local stores.

In Ashland, Small Business Saturday brought out a large crowd.

Small Business Saturday began 5 years ago as a promotion by American Express, now it’s recognized across the country as a day to shop locally.

Jennifer Streit — who opened Prize in Ashland — says it means a lot to her as a small business owner, “It’s so important to me that small businesses are still thriving, because that’s what make a community, and that’s what makes every town special.”

Streit says she expects foot traffic to increase as the countdown to Christmas begins.
