Shoreline rescue at Harris Beach

Brookings, Ore. –A Curry County Sheriff Deputy is getting out of the hospital after he tried to save a little boy from drowning and almost drowned himself.

It happened at Harris Beach a little after 5:30pm on Monday night. Curry County Sheriff Deputy Terry Brown responded to a call of a boy floating off shore.

Brown put on a life jacket and jumped in after him helping 14-year-old Joshua keep his head above water.

The current in the 50 degree water was so strong that the two got stuck and it took rescue workers several tries to reach them.

After about 45 minutes rescue workers were able to use ropes to bring Officer Brown and Joshua to shore.

Both had extreme hypothermia and Brown almost died because of it but they’re both ok and Brown is being called a hero.
