Siskiyou County Jail inmate dies after he was found hanging in cell

BAKER MUG SHOT
Medford, Ore. — A Siskiyou County Jail inmate died Monday afternoon, after he was found hanging in his cell last week.

Authorities say 27 year old Mathew Baker was at Rogue Regional Medical Center when he died.

You may remember Baker as the man who caused quite a stir in Medford in March as the person of interest in a murder investigation who was on the loose in the Rogue Valley.

Deputies say last Thursday, Baker was found alone in his cell and unconscious around 3 pm.

He was first taken to the Fairchild Medical Center, before being transferred to RRMC.

Baker was in custody on murder charges.

The Washington man was arrested in Talent on March 2nd, the day that police say he attacked another man in his home on Birch Lane in Siskiyou County, causing his death.

An autopsy will be scheduled for later this week.
