Sprague River Shooting Suspect Arrested

One man is dead, another recovering from a stabbing, and one suspect in custody following a wild night of gunfire in Sprague River…Which virtually shut the town down overnight.

25 year old Teel Blue Gentry surrendered to police shortly after 9 Friday morning.

Neighbors say Gentry shot and killed 36 year old Derrick William Forste for stabbing a friend.

“There was a stabbing and a shooting there last night.” Noted Sprague River resident William Brooks. “Shot a few cop cars. And so there was a party, and it got out of hand.”

The incident began just off of Bliss Road at around 11:30 Thursday night.

Klamath County Sheriff Frank Skrah says that when police showed up, they were met by gunfire…

“As I’m coming up here, I hear on the radio that they are taking fire, and that they have been fired upon, and one penetrated the window of the car.”

Sheriff Skrah says he stopped a car that had been identified as fleeing the area on his way in…

“A woman, and two men – a man in the back seat, stabbed, and bleeding profusely…the woman had a purse. Took the purse away from her, which she didn’t want to give up. Inside the purse was 2 handguns, loaded – a revolver, and an automatic.”

The unnamed stabbing victim was airlifted to Sky Lakes Medical Center.

The Sheriff says he was then shot at as he approached the crime scene…

“We took five, six, seven – there’s six expended cartridges there – did a ‘U’ie, tried to kick up as much dust as we can for cover, and got the hell out of there.”

SWAT teams from around the state were called in, and the entire town was sealed off until the suspect surrendered.

Police then began processing the crime scene.

The Klamath County Major Crime Team has been activated.

No police officers were injured, despite several exchanges of gunfire throughout the evening.

Witnesses say the suspect fired several shots at his mother’s car, after mistaking it for a patrol car.

Roughly 60 SWAT team members from across the state were on scene.

Gentry is charged with two counts of attempted aggravated murder, his bail is set at one million dollars.
