State police investigate “random” shooting in Cave Junction

Cave Junction, Ore. — Oregon State Police are asking for the public’s help after what they call a “random” shooting in Cave Junction.

OSP Sergeant Jeff Proulx said a 37-year-old woman was driving on Pine Cone Drive with her eight-year-old son just before 1:00 Tuesday morning when she swerved to miss a man standing in the road. Proulx said the woman drove off the road, and when she backed up she realized she’d been shot in the arm.

A neighbor said they found out about the crime when detectives knocked on her door this morning.

“It scared me half to death. That doesn’t happen ever, so it startled me,” Joanie Sanford said.

The woman was taken to the hospital and released hours later. Her son was not injured. Proulx said they believe the shooting was random, but don’t believe the public’s in danger. If you have any information you’re asked to call police.
