Suspect eludes police in car, on foot outside of Medford

Medford, Ore. — A suspicious vehicle call turned into a chase in Southwest Medford. Police are still searching for a suspect, after the driver eluded them on Griffin Creek road Monday afternoon.

Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office say just before one, they received numerous calls about a suspicious vehicle in rural Southwest Medford. Neighbors reported the car was pulling into driveways in the area and grew concerned.

When deputies located it, a chase began. After a couple miles, police say the driver pulled into a driveway on the 7000 block, drove up into the woods, and ditched the car.

“A perimeter was set up and a K9 was called out to go find the suspect,” Sergeant Rick Kennedy said.

Sheriffs deputies, along with Oregon State Police hiked for more than two miles while Phoenix police kept a perimeter.

“It was difficult looking for the suspect, because of the terrain that we’re in, it’s heavily wooded and steep,” Sergeant Kennedy said.

Authorities believe the suspect headed East, and got away. The man has been identified as Skyler Barge, 28. He is still on the run, but deputies say he is not considered a threat to the public.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police.
