Suspect still wanted in connection with beating, carjacking

carjackingTrail, Ore. — One of two men wanted in connection with a brutal beating and carjacking in Jackson County is behind bars.

26-year-old Cody Dempsey was arrested Wednesday night, but police say he was only booked on a probation violation. Meanwhile, police are still looking for 38-year-old Joseph Walter III.

According to police, the two men beat a man unconscious before stealing his car. Southern Oregon Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of Walter.

A sheriff spokeswoman declined to say when or if charges will be filed against Dempsey in the violent robbery. Dempsey is at the Jackson County Jail.
