Takata announces largest auto recall

Takata is significantly increasing the number of faulty air bags it’s recalling. In an agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Takata Corp. will declare nearly 34,000,000 vehicles defective due to problems with airbag inflators.

Many of Takata’s airbags explode with so much force that they blow apart a metal canister, sending shrapnel into the passenger compartment.

The airbags are responsible for six deaths, five of them in the U.S. and more than 100 injuries.
