Taylor Resigns from City Council

Facing criminal charges, a Klamath Falls city councilman has resigned from office.

60 year old Greg Taylor was arrested May 2nd for alleged sexual abuse of a 5 year old boy in Corvallis. Nearly 2 months after his arrest, Taylor resigned from his city council position. City council member Bill Adams had this reaction…

“What’s going on was probably too much of a distraction for him, and I think maybe he felt it was a distraction to council as well.”

Greg Taylor and his lawyer have chosen not to comment on camera about the issue. But in a written statement, they noted: “Although Mr. Taylor would like to continue to serve on the city council, he is concerned that the charge he is facing will detract from city business, and does not wish to have his personal challenges impact the ability of the city council to perform their duties.”

City council member Trish Seiler says that the situation hasn’t been a distraction. “I don’t believe so. We’ve been extremely busy with work sessions, study sessions.”

Council now needs to declare a vacancy, take applications, then appoint an interim council member to serve through the end of the year. City Manager Rick Whitlock notes that the position will be up for election on the November ballot…

“It will be necessary for someone to run for that position to serve the remainder of Mr. Taylor’s term.”

There are three years left on Taylor’s term.

Taylor remains on paid administrative leave from his job as an instructor at Klamath Community College.

Taylor has represented Ward 3 in Klamath Falls, which includes the Mills Addition, and Foothills Boulevard neighborhoods.
