Thanksgiving Travel: Ready to Roll!

NC_travel1117_700x394(NBC News) This year’s holiday rush will be the busiest it’s been in years.

AAA is predicting nearly 47 million travelers will hit the roads, rails and skies this Thanksgiving, the most since 2007.

According to AAA most, 89.3 percent, will be getting there by car, and they’ll be getting a holiday bonus at the pump.

“Lower gas prices have helped to put extra money in travelers’ pockets,” says AAA president Marshall Doney. “The current national average for a gallon of gas is $2.15, and AAA expects prices to remain low throughout the holiday season.”

Analysts say there are two destinations: Shopping or sunning.

“Chicago takes our Number 1 spot as the most popular destination for travelers,” says Orbitz Senior Editor Jeanenne Tornatore. “Orlando, Los Angeles, New York and Cancun round out our top five.”

Flyers will get a break as well.

“Airfares are projected to fall by 10% this Thanksgiving, landing at an average of $169 for a round trip flight,” Doney says.
