As Medford’s Pear Blossom celebration gets underway, this year’s theme draws more of an eye to another valley fruit, the grape.
In 1954 the Pear Blossom got it’s start as a spring celebration between local pear producers.
Now, the festival sports the theme: “pears, vines and wines”, as the valley see’s more orchards turning into vineyards.
“We’re seeing a lot of orchards around that are struggling…so I believe grapes are the next level” says Tiffany Hurley of Roxy Ann Winery.
Producers say the grape, like the pear, does very well in our area, also supporting the trend.
This weekend’s festivities are finding ways to celebrate both of them.
