‘Up and Down Ashland’ cyclists tackle 51 miles, 5100 foot climb

UP AND DOWN ASHLAND PICAshland, Ore. — Nearly 100 cyclists hit the bike path Saturday morning, for the first annual ‘Up and Down Ashland’ ride.

The group started bright and early at Emigrant Lake, and rode up Greensprings, to Howard Prairie road, down Dead Indian Memorial road, and back to the lake. Participants tackled 51 miles, and a climb of 5,100 feet during their ride.

“It’s definitely not for the faint of heart, but there’s a lot of people out there enjoying the ride,” Organizer Jenna Marmon said. “It’s a beautiful route, great views, great vistas, and it really highlights the best of the best in Southern Oregon.”

Organizers are considering expanding the event for next year, with different courses that vary in length and difficulty. All of the proceeds from today will go toward maintaining the bike path.
