UPDATE: City of Phoenix votes to raise fines for operating without a business license

Phoenix, Ore. — On Monday night, the City of Phoenix voted 5-to-1 to increase fines for businesses operating without a license.

The decision may directly affect The Greenery in Phoenix. It’s a resource center for medical marijuana patients that also provides cannabis to OMMP cardholders.

The Greenery is currently operating without a business license.

City Manager Steve Dahl says the city council voted to increase business license fines from $100 to $500 to make them more comparable to other similar code enforcement fines.

Two words were also changed in the ordinance in order to potentially allow medical marijuana dispensaries in Phoenix down the road, after the city’s temporary ban expires.

“The city council decided they would like to have rules and regulations to be able to have medical marijuana facilities within the City of Phoenix. They put a moratorium on so we can do it the correct way and make sure we’re not just slapping stuff together,” said Dahl.

Monday night was the second reading of the changes to the business license ordinance.

As for The Greenery, the City of Phoenix has said it’s seeking a court order to shut the business down.
